First reaction to John Titor story

::.. As we've seen it takes very little effort to convince some of us of Ghosts stories, Shadow people, man made objects embedded in coal millions of years old etc. etc.. :: I tend to agree with Cornelia's logic ..::

::.. The whole idea started when a group of intellectual individuals, with genuine concern about the "New World Order," decided to mix mindsets with those of us that love to imbibe the stories told by the likes of Nexus and Art Bell ..::.. The outcome was all that we see that is Titor related today :: The effort that went into his tale shows that much research and preparation went into it far ahead of its net debut..::

::.. Going back to this thread's original intent :: My initial reaction was that a group of intelligent conspiracy theorist wanted to devise a method to make their ideologies strike a chord in much larger circles of interest/influences ..::.. Taking this into account, the group most likely persuaded would be the anomaly enthusiasts of the world and so determining the demographics was the easy part ..::

::.. I am now comfortable with the masses believing in the Titor opera :: I once hated the idea of anyone "preaching" that this Sci-Fi stuff may be true :: I've since learned that truth can really be stranger than fiction ..::.. I now consider the Titor saga a very light form of Sci-Fi entertainment and simply applaud those that follow their own conclusions on any subject these days ..::

Well, not entirely fiction, is it?

We should take Cornelia's interpretation to heart, if only because it casts doubt on the storyteller, where it properly belongs. The story itself will soon become either fiction or nonfiction.

As for the targeted audience, consider that it was the internet audience that first blew the whistle on Patriot II, which had been secretly run through Congress and was ready for passage without public debate or discussion (which are actually formal legal requirements for such a devastating piece of legislation)-- before the vote, the internet leak caused them to withdraw the legislation and try a different tack, resulting in the passage of only a few of the provisions. Many important breaking stories are first broken on the internet, among just the type of people who "frequent" the boards.

I have learned over the years that you must watch the edges of society to learn of the trends and coming events that are most significant. Every pioneering scientist, poet, and thinker is there in that margin or "fringe," and you can find most of the important inventions in science fiction-- a realm not known for mainstream personalities.

To find the one Grayson has called "Time Traveler One," I think you would most likely go to the internet; likewise, if you wanted to spring a scarcely-believable set of predictions on the world, you would most likely go to the time travel forums.

You're so right, Paul.
World must thanks the Internet if we can keep our eyes opened and still have some freedom left. Really, can you imagine how it would be now without the Internet? How WE would be? Blindly believing whatever they say on TV. Under worldwide dictatures.

Cornelia,

Let's hope the internet stays up, unregulated by government. The next terrorist attack could be the excuse used to start shutting down "dissident" internet sites. There are already plans to move to www2, and to make www obsolete. Part of the reason is get away from "all of the pornography" on the web. Of course it's being talked about from the corporate viewpoint (Oracle, Intel, etc.), but the govt. can't be too far behind. When internet sites start getting shutdown and "sanitized" for public viewing, it'll be another sign that the NWO is tightening its grip. Sounds pretty outrageous, but that's what happened to radio back in the 1930's. All of a sudden the govt. decided that this new means of communication had to be regulated for "the greater good" and "protection" of the masses. It all sounds good with the right spin attached to it, but it's more govt. control in the end.

I guess that's right: when the question is asked (as it has often been) Why would a time traveler waste his time on an internet board? perhaps the answer ought to be that the internet is the only place he could actually publish his story. It would be either that or a mass letter-writing campaign. This would especially be true in the case of someone from Titor's future, who has reason to be suspicious of corporate media.

The analogy to the telephone has carried the freedom of the internet quite far; perhaps soon the government will enforce its analogy to the television instead, along the lines suggested by Cary for the early radio. It makes the medium one-way.

And at the moment, you cannot prevent everybody from reading / exploring all these theories. This venue would reach the most amount of people in the quickest way possible short of a televised news cast, and we all know the odds of *That* happening.

::.. A world without the internet? :: Hmmm.. More outdoors, face to face communications? :: Sound familiar anyone? :: Would this not result in more communal living? :: Another source for Boomer's motivation perhaps ..::

::pAUL::

::.. Ever think that maybe, just maybe, all these sites are being brought down for that very reason? Directly because of Boomer even? ..::.. i.e. Art Bell, Wayback, TT-Hotel, Virtually all the old TT chat rooms etc. ..::

::.. I am inclined to believe that Pam and a good ol' friend of yours and mine can shed some light on this if they were here ..::

::.. Points to ponder people ..::

So true, lev.
.tk disappeared without no further explanations.
TTH is for sale.

All the most important sites about John, some of them with the original posts, are in troubles.

2005 is coming...

This is the most important site about Titor, isn't it? Is there any danger of this one being "brought down?"

Paul,

Snow and I are in the process of building a Time Travel Library to archive every bit of info we can get on every time traveller we can find.

We're in no danger of being brought down, I think Satan archives this site regularly.
