Does anyone have any advice on how to find a good grid point/vortex?
Dowsing rods and pendulums, map dowsing can help give you areas to check out.

The USGS has online magnetic survey maps of each state which may narrow your search, also look at any native american "sacred" sites.

Also there is a theory that the movement of water through different substrates cause an electrostatic charge creating a vortex. You can look at google maps satellite photos of your area to determine water flow from nearby water bodies that may look promising.

Hope this helps.
