Or maybe what happens when a portal opens is the energy when oscillating at certain frequency may cause the surrounding area in the aether to expands as the energy from what ever device your using to pull this energy is collecting it from one place and as the device collecting it and a possible feed back to the aether cause the energy the to build and and when you have it coming from two locations at the exact same time the energy expands creating a bridge between two points.
