Internet Archeology: Cool Old Shit

Here, I found it, a Zyxel modem, it's old already. I apologize in advance that the inscriptions on the box are not in English.

I still have a few old modems. I kept a large 2400 baud modem around as an easy way of testing serial ports. I was using a voice modem to automatically play the "disconnect message" to telephone scammers on my land line, but I had to dump that last year. I miss the clarity of that connection. Cell phone clarity isn't.

I'm pretty sure I have a couple of old modems in my basement somewhere. No idea what I'd do with them though. I don't even have an old phone landline anymore.

Come to think, I've got a couple ISA modems in a parts box somewhere that are FAX capable. While cell phones suck for audio quality, 4G LTE HD and VOLTE might have enough and consistent audio quality to support slow FAXing. I've read about people trying and failing with previous versions. I've had some ideas about maybe interfacing an old modem chip to a headset interface and maybe get that working. I don't FAX often, but most of my doctors still use it. I sure as hell don't trust the free online FAXing services with my medical records.
