Darkwolf,
please, re-read my post: nobody mentioned Bush. Just plain facts, like FBI taking foreign servers in a foreign country.

Let's put it this way: they've taken the servers of a grocery store in a foreign country. The grocer is a socialist. Is this a right thing to do?

My point is that the nature of the publication makes any facts they state questionable. This is put out by a group that has major problems with anything that the u.s. does. Its kind of like taking the aryan Nation's word for something Isriel supposedly did.

StarLord,
don't blame corporations this time. Oil production is peaking, and there's nothing they can do. Their only fault is keeping their mouth shut, but I don't expect them to speak out. I expect our world leaders to speak frankly to us, but you know, bad news don't lead to win elections.

Haven't you been telling us that the "leaders" are no longer in charge?

Hey gang,

The price of crude closed just under $55/bbl today. Gas prices are going up disproportionately around the US because of state gas taxes. You pay max taxes in California and other socialist states. We're just getting to $1.90+ here in southern LA. But we're catching up with the rest of you. Look for higher heating bills this winter, especially if you live in the Midwest or the Northeast. It's supposed to be a cold winter. Good for duck season here, but bad for the economy. The mega-energy companies are having a field day. As to who's changing the price at individual gas stations, it's probably the station owner or manager. America is about a profit motive. Charge what the traffic will bear and all that. Anyway, get used to higher energy prices. Peak Oil has arrived and the corporatists are going to clean up as the sheeple slowly come to realize it over the coming years. The gubament ain't here to take care of you. Deal with it. Smile, it get's a lot worse from here.

well, here in the past week gas went up from $1.80 to $2.20 per gallon. $.40 in one freakin week.

It is going to be VERY interesting when gas gets really expensive, I am just glad that my car can get over 30mpg when I want it to :)

Sooo... I live in Maryland and have clients in D.C. and as such, I get some job offers forwarded to me. I found this one *really* odd. Here's an excerpt from the email:

JOB: 3 months in downtown DC: Web editor/producer

The Washington Office of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, a global
communications firm, is seeking a Web site Editor/Producer for a high
profile 3-plus month project. This position will design content for a
network news-like Web site that will be used during a nationwide
government training exercise, overseeing a staff of seven news writers
reporting developments involving emergency response, public health, law
enforcement, and public policy during the exercise itself. Duties will
be split between developing story ideas, assigning stories, editing,
managing editorial content, and making sure that stories stay in line with exercise objectives.

Requirements: Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in
communications, journalism, English or related field, and five years of
related professional experience including both writing and management.

Is it me (or the fact that it is 4:35a here!) or does this seem weird? What are they planning for? This seems like a large thing to me. I have a friend / former co-worker at Ogilvy. I'll poke around and see if I can find out more.

Look at the points in the job description like: 'government training exercise', '... involving emergency response', 'law enforcement, and public policy'. I find it *really* interesting that it will have a live website in a network news-like form. Very interesting, indeed.

Thoughts?

Starlord,
I'm the biggest admirer of your wonderful english, but please, when you speak directly to me try to use a simpler language, because it's very hard for me to understand your point. Thanks! :)
Anyway, this is EXACTLY ;) what's happening: "peak oil" means we are at the top of production. They can't simply pump more than what they're already pumping (about 89 millions/barrels per day in the whole world).

Now, we are in a demand/supply economy: and you know better than me that if the world wants, say, 90 barrels or 91 barrels per day the price can do nothing else than grow. And this is what is happening: the growth of China is far stronger than they've foreseen, and the rest of the world is growing oil demand at 3% per year.
Of course, there are people speculating on this, corporations jumping like in a party and all. But this time it's not a trick: it's the real thing happening. If scientists are right, we're reaching a "plateau" where prices will go up a down for some months, then grow forever.

They're not saying this on Tv just because they don't want you and me and other 6 billions people rushing at Wall Street and buying paper oil in order to get rich (and disrupting the economy in three hours). But if you read the previous HuntTech post maybe you can guess why they're preparing for national emergencies... and it's NOT because of terrorism or elections tricks.

Well, HuntTech, apply for that job!
So we'll have an insider!?

I live in Maryland too. Maybe I should apply. ;)

But I already have a state job... (programmer)

Nothing odd in that sector...
