Record Number of Terror Warrants Approved

WASHINGTON -- The government requested and won approval for a record number of special warrants last year for secret wiretaps and searches of suspected terrorists and spies, 75 percent more than in 2000, the Bush administration disclosed Friday.

Assistant Attorney General William E. Moschella revealed the figure in an annual report to Congress. Last year's total of 1,754 approved warrants was only slightly higher than the 1,724 approved in 2003. But the number has climbed markedly since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, as authorities have moved aggressively against terror suspects. In 2000, there were 1,003 warrants approved under the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Since passage of the Patriot Act, the FBI can use such warrants in investigations that aren't mostly focused on foreign intelligence.

Operating with permission from a secretive U.S. court that meets regularly at Justice headquarters, the FBI has used such warrants to break into homes, offices, hotel rooms and automobiles, install hidden cameras, search luggage and eavesdrop on telephone conversations. Agents also have pried into safe deposit boxes, watched from afar with video cameras and binoculars and intercepted e-mails.

its amazeing to watch history unfold , this is going to get realy out of control realy fast...i feal for the residents of that area, who are most likely unprepared for what is happening. the rest of us have a little time to figure out what we need to do ,food water ect, im not trying to doom and gloom here... but worst case senario, woud be a trucker strike, utilitys," the grid" on /off ect.. shortages.... even if it doesn't get bad , in these unstable times one should always have food and water in reserve and a plan .this brings us back to titors advice on how to prepare ....kinda errie huh??

It does look as things are kicking off, but this type of thing progresses fairly slowly so there is time to prepare.
Wars of the nature titor predicts, and it looks like one may be brewing generally progress through four phases.

#1 Foundational phase. People segragate themselves ideologically, and lines are formed in the hearts and minds of the people. There is increasing talk of civil war, and increasing violations of civil rights by the government. Underground groups form and prepare, and people form pollitical groups and parties based on their greviences. There are demonstrations and riots which turn ugly, and are put down by force.

#2 Underground phase. This phase is marked by violent actions by secret groups which do not resemble military formations, and are not full time. These include bombings, sabatage, pollitical nastiness. Underground publications appear and take on more and more extreme positions against the establishment. Rebel groups begin to steal or otherwise aquire weapons that otherwise are unavailable to civillians. The establishment reacts with extreme force sometimes using heavy weapons to put down riots, and raid dissident concentrations. Law enforcement tactics begin to become more like military tactics. The government will go after dissenters for their pollitical ideals, rather than for them committing crimes. BTW, this phase opened in the era of Waco and the Oklahoma city bombing.

#3 Gurilla phase. Full time armed bands appear. They conduct raids and ambushes against the establishment that are in fact small scale military operations. These groups may start out not being idealogically similar, or connected to each other in any way, but they come under more centeral control as the phase progresses. The establishment abandons the pretense that they are enforcing the law, and fight the rebels as a military campaign. The bands grow in number, streangth, skill and armament. They actually gain control of certian parts of the country, and become the de facto government in these areas. The government abandons these areas and concentrates on defending it's power centers. Some local governments, and some national guard units can be expected to defect to the rebels at this point. Once many have done so, phase four will open. The cities become isolated, and have trouble supplying themselves.

#4 Active military phase. The gurilla bands have grown, and been re inforced by defecting military, police, and national guard. Battle lines form (in this case between rural lands, and isolated cities) Both sides now use tanks, aircraft, and artilary. It is now a conventional war.

As you can see, this will take awhile, and may not go all the way thanks to the Russian's .......Help.

Re: minuteman project... waco type event???

TOMBSTONE, Ariz. -- More than 100 Minuteman Project volunteers clapped, shouted, waived American flags and stomped their feet during an old-fashioned revival-style meeting yesterday called to denounce President Bush and formally kickoff a 30-day blockade of the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona.

\"I'm proud of every single one of you,\" Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, told the cheering crowd inside the city's 120-year-old community center, once frequented by Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday.

\"You are not vigilantes. You are heroes,\" said Mr. Tancredo, founding chairman of Team America, a political action committee dedicated to electing legislators sensitive to defending U.S. borders and protecting American jobs.

Bay Buchanan, chairwoman of Team America and sister of former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, received a standing ovation as she berated Mr. Bush for failing \"our country.\"

\"You have failed us, and you have failed our children, by continuing to let criminals and drugs come across this border,\" she said.

The rally, described as an orientation meeting, capped off a day of registration for the Minuteman volunteers, who will begin patrols of the border south of here on Monday to protest the lax immigration-enforcement policies of the administration and Congress.

The daylong event saw counterprotesters line the street outside the hall, American Indians dancing in native custom to a steady drumbeat and \"Lady Liberty\" twirling through one lane of the city's main street -- all under the watchful eye of dozens of Arizona police, rangers and sheriff's deputies. Members of the press, many of them from Mexico, outnumbered the volunteers, with satellite trucks lining the street leading to Big Nose Kate's Saloon. \"Legal observers\" hired by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) also patrolled outside the hall.

Hmm, we have republicans speaking against Bush, very forcefully. Perhaps the presence of pollitical bigwigs will stay the government's hand.

Just a few are speaking out. Where's the rest? Hell, where are some Democrats? A few won't stop the feds, maybe slow em down a little, but Bushco will do what it wants. The major news media is still not picking this up. I suspect/bet that it will take some serious blood shed for that to happen. God speed to the MMP volunteers.

Re: minuteman project... waco type event???

I don't know if this is true but someone on DU is reporting this..

WZZM reports unprovoked attack by police upon students

Was on just now. No link, but I'm sure tomorrow there will be plenty. Apparently, there was NO riot or unlawful activity of any kind, but police in full riot gear nonetheless fired tear gas on the students who were walking down the street, leaving the game.

Reporters were/are on the scene right now. I'm sure there will be more tomorrow, but you might want to tune in.... reporters say police aren't tolerating any public on the streets.
