Poor baby was scared. Why didn't she let him finish eating?

About 10 years ago I had 2 little terrors about 5 weeks old. The first day I let them loose in my apartment. The first day one of them disappeared. I found him the next day in a big plastic bucket. They were both very scared the first day. But both of them recognized the sound of an electric can opener. They were both at my feet begging and meowing for food. One of them was also very growly during feeding time.
