Ponytail stunt death: Daredevil died while doing zip line stunt by ponytail

Tragedy has come upon a family as 49-year-old world record holder, Sailendra Nath Roy has died. The man has the Guinness World Record for covering the most distance on a zip line while hanging by his hair, but it is his life's work that killed him. The Epoch Times reported on Monday, April 29, 2013, that Roy suffered what is being called the "ponytail stunt death" this past weekend.

Roy was attempting to cross over the River Teesta in West Bangal on Sunday when a problem arose. Roy has his ponytail tied to the zip line for the stunt, but while going across the river, he hit a snag.

The stuntman got caught halfway across the zip line and couldn't move any further. He began panicking but then went limp and silent after about 20 minutes. Locals ended up rescuing him and he was taken to a hospital that was about 280 miles away.

Once there, Roy was declared dead of what doctors are suspecting was a heart attack.

“He was desperately trying to move forward. He was trying to scream out some instruction. But no one could follow what he was saying. After struggling for 30 minutes he became still,” said Balai Sutradhar, a photographer covering the event, told the BBC.

Sadly, his wife had constantly urged him to stop doing the dangerous stunts. An anonymous friend said Roy convinced his wife that Sunday's stunt over the Teesta River was to be his last.

Local authorities had not given the man clearance to perform that ponytail stunt that ended up causing his death.

This is sad but not the smartest thing to do. Next someone will try to hang from the zip line by you know what. Let us give a big round of applause to our next contestant,Spaghetti Johnson.
