@Tysarua is saying is of something that is actually more common than you might realize.
In all my years of studying the paranormal, I thought it wise to take courses in Psychology
and I am happy I did because it helped during the time(s) I had an actual Paranormal investigation team going.
That however, doesn't rule out what you experienced wasn't something out of the ordinary
such as the paranormal, it's just critical thinking being used. That's what I did as well.
Rule out everything that science or common ground dictates it to be by investigation.
I lived through something major in my life which blew away academic logic....And I still have living witnesses.
So, don't be alarmed if those not involved, don't believe you, no one really believes me, either.
It's just words to the uninitiated/un-exposed to the event(s) that caused the fear.
Spirits are very much alive and real. IMHO
