Yay. Finally.
The Sabbath is related to Creation not the crucifixion. The Catholic Church primarily was responsible for changing to Sunday. Jesus never instructed that. So future battle over the Sabbath once again? Maybe Pope Francis will realize the truth and make the change during the Jubilee āYear of the Lordās Favorā.
It has nothing to do with current or old denominations. New ones will form. But on the new earth they will follow Gods commandments.
Seventh-day Adventist Church teaches that the Sabbath should be observed on Saturday, as it was originally instituted in the Bible. They believe that the restoration of Sabbath observance on the seventh day (Saturday) is central to fulfilling biblical prophecy and will play a significant role in the events of the end times.
### Prophetic Basis in Seventh-day Adventist Belief:
1. Sabbath as a Perpetual Commandment:
- Seventh-day Adventists believe that the Sabbath, established in Genesis 2:2-3 and commanded in the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11), is a perpetual, divine institution that was never meant to be changed. They emphasize that it is a sign of loyalty to God and His authority as Creator.
2. Prophecy of Sabbath Restoration:
- Revelation 14:6-12, known as the Three Angels' Messages, is foundational to Seventh-day Adventist eschatology. The first angel's message calls for people to "fear God and give Him glory" and to "worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water" (Revelation 14:7), which they interpret as a call to return to true worship, including proper Sabbath observance.
- Adventists believe that the Sabbath is a test of faithfulness in the end times. They view Sunday worship as a tradition that was wrongly introduced by human authorities, particularly by the Roman Catholic Church. They expect that in the last days, there will be a clear distinction between those who follow Godās law (including the Saturday Sabbath) and those who follow man-made traditions.
3. The "Mark of the Beast" and the Sabbath:
- Seventh-day Adventists often connect the enforcement of Sunday worship with the "mark of the beast" mentioned in Revelation 13. They believe that in the future, Sunday observance will be enforced by governments and religious powers, and those who resist and keep the biblical Sabbath (Saturday) will demonstrate their allegiance to God.
- Conversely, they interpret accepting Sunday observance as aligning with the beast power, which they associate with religious systems that have strayed from biblical truth.
4. End-Time Prophecy and the Restoration of True Worship:
- Adventists believe that before the Second Coming of Christ, there will be a restoration of biblical truth, including a return to proper Sabbath observance on Saturday. This is seen as a fulfillment of prophecy in texts like Isaiah 58:12-14, where the people of God are called to "repair the breach" and restore "the paths to dwell in," which they interpret as a call to restore Sabbath observance.
- Isaiah 66:22-23 is also cited to show that the Sabbath will be observed in the new heavens and new earth, reinforcing the idea that Sabbath observance is eternal.
### Summary:
In the Seventh-day Adventist Churchās eschatology, the restoration of the Saturday Sabbath is a crucial element of biblical prophecy, particularly as it relates to end-time events. They believe that observing the seventh-day Sabbath is a sign of allegiance to God, and in the end times, there will be a clear distinction between those who honor the biblical Sabbath and those who follow Sunday observance, which they see as a man-made tradition. This restoration of the Sabbath is viewed as part of a broader return to true worship and faithfulness to God's commandments.
