How can these time loops be triggered today?

Short answer yes. Long answer is that while there are, the Universe is deterministic so it's impossible to "mess up" world lines. There aren't any alternate timelines. There used to be time loops that would trigger when the Universe would go off course as sort of a backup protocol. Any time something happened that wasn't supposed to (usually I or my friend getting killed), it would reset things to the point at which the deviation could be prevented.

what do you mean by "I or my my friend getting killed", have you been dead before, if yes please explain.

Well, i believe in Extradimensional beings, metaphysical watchers, thats like someone said , preventing us from messing with anything that would have grand consequence, or ones that manipulate, use, drive mad. so i have to believe if there's ones that favor knowledge, there must be time focused ones. if you follow you may not come back, with that , id go. not much here to see.
