I think he means a lot of things thought of as bad in ancient times were actually good
but he didn't state his case clear enough.

If all the wars are started by the big power players at the top with divide and conquer
it would make sense that the ones portrayed as bad might actually not be so bad.
But your case seems to be more broad and all encompassing so I don't quite know what to say.
