Random happening @work last night.

We have 1 of these bad boys.

Ours has been down for maintenance but when I came in to work, I was told by my supervisor
to set it up for a needed run and that it was repaired and ready to be run.

I questioned him on it being these are dangerous machines and
there were STILL safety grills and other panels that weren't in place yet.

He told me that they ran it once and it was fine.

So..........................

When I went to set it up...The first thing I did was turn it on, right?

The moment I did, it went into Continuous with the top moving up / down repeatedly
as most would when set to Continuous mode.
It wasn't, It was in Inch mode and should never have moved on it's own. Period.

I could have been killed last night.
It was all captured on video and they saw right off that I wasn't guilty of wrong doing.

I work 3rd shift, there are only 7 of us and I am the only person in my area.
My supervisor is 2nd shift but controls 3rd and gave the go ahead for the press to be activated.

I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

I'm just happy to be in 1 piece.

For the record...I included that the company owes me a new pair of underwear in my report!! ;)

I know.

The plant manager was all over it the moment he came in and saw the report.
Asked me if was okay repeatedly after seeing the video.

My boss' cavalier attitude towards things he doesn't really know about...is going to get someone hurt.

Or worse....But he's young and just doesn't know how to listen to experience, always tries to overrule.
I use my 28 years of experience usually after the dude leaves...That's how it is.

The big 150 on the press is in reference to it's impact force of 150 TONS,
that ain't small by any means.
I've worked with machines that were double that capacity....Those, can shake a building! ;)
