What Huxley and Orwell Feared the Most

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy.

As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions." "In 1984", Huxley added, "people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure."

In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.

But Huxley wasn't aware of pornographic books and those books entering the schools of elementary children. (It happened in Florida). Banning ALL books is bad, but there needs to be boundaries. Children are not ready for adult topics. Besides, the books were simply banned from the schools, not banned from existence.

And the last comment about what we hate and what we love seems to be the right and the left movement. One party is against all that is bad. The other party wants pleasure to take over all, whether it's evil or not.

So, he was right.

For some reason the left can't tell the difference. Can't say I'm for outlawing porn though
I think it provides a healthy outlet for people (ADULTS, which should be clear and obvious) who can't always get real sex. It has its downsides
and I know of them but so does everything. That having been said, yeah the left is very weird in this regard, not
for allowing porn but thinking it should be allowed for the wrong age groups.

The left seems to think all change is inherently good.
Some change is good some is bad.
Not all "progression" is progressing towards a good thing.
Just as things staying the same isn't always good either

Yeah, I don't see how it makes me a witch that I've seen a few porn flicks that are all adult consenting women.
For one thing I'm EXTREMELY strongly opposed to pedophilia.

I know of every argument against porn and there are strong good arguments against it.

I would say instead of outlawing porn materials make them less constantly prevalent everywhere one looks.

Hatred being taught to young minds is the cruelest thing being done. These poor souls become damaged for life. When it turns to self hatred it becomes terminal. There is no hope for individuals raised this way.
