Fascism was invented few kilometers far from my house ;) . Well, of course I'm not defending Mussolini, but fascism was quite different from nazism and people tend to wrongly mix them. Both had an imperialistic approach, but Hitler was far more concerned about the "vital room" for German people, meaning he wanted to conquer Europe and "germanizing" it. They felt they were superior to other countries, while Mussolini never thought of that... maybe because Italian don't like any imperialism, and we didn't ever supported that adventure in Africa (our heart was with Africans! )
Anyway, fascism is similar to communism when it comes on organizing society, but it gives rooms to corporations and religion. A good definition was given some month ago by a White House consulent living in Italy (he's famous here and always on TV, sorry can't recall the name):
"Yes, we Americans hate dictatures. But you know, there are differences: when a dictature is communist or socialist we intervene to stop it, but if the dictator don't touch private property or business, well, we can close an eye or human rights and let him rule."
I was almost falling from my chair. That's a perfect definition of the difference between communism and fascism from the "american interests" perspective.

Well, that's the rumor Cornelia. If we're not Illuminati, we're supposed to be human-lizzard hybrids - part lizzard, part human. Now if I could only figure out which part was which. I'd ask Paul, but he'd probably give me an honest appraisal, and I'd become disillusioned about my future prospects. As far as secret meetings, I'd never attend; they're too secretive for me. I'd bet you've got one hell of a devil laugh, one comparable to your devilish sense of humor.

Cary you're from the Battle of New Orleans, where "every man was half a horse and half an alligator," so you're definitely one-half reptile.

By the way, you can prove that the Illuminati coldblooded ones are taking over, because lizard backwards is brazil... oh wait, hold it. I got that wrong.

Anyway, I think it's your left half. And this is why you and Cornelia don't show your faces here, because we'd see the strange eyes. The reason I don't show my own here is because I can't figure out how to work the scanner or digital camera.

The "middle class" American today lives a better lifestyle (in terms of material possessions and creature comforts) than royalty of less than 200 years ago.

You are so right sir. I can attest to that from personal experience. If you had grown up where and when I did, you would see even more how right you are there. The average person now has access to amenities that I would have thought too far above my station to even dream about.

In fact there is no basis of comparison. There were no such amenities as the ones now enjoyed to be "accessed" even in the recent past decades, let alone centuries ago. The entire technological structure of everyday life has changed, and not keyed necessarily to wealth.

What should not have changed since the early 19th Century is the unfamiliarity with such phrases as "the average person" and "access to amenities." Your language is chockfull of modernisms, despite the artful placement of antique phrases. In the early 1800s, one neither placed such weight as you have upon "personal experience" (a thoroughly postmodern value) or used such a fresh, direct, and informed style.

You are correct to point out the modernisms in my speech and some of the current day mindset with which I write. I would be more surprised if after ten years, some of that had not crept in, especially considering the efforts I have made to blend in. You never addressed the vast differences in spelling either. That has changed much over the years. To compare standards of living in the different eras is at best an apples and oranges comparison as well, as you so rightly pointed out, but it does seem that people today have access to more wealth than folks did then and they spend it more freely. That is simply my observation.

Am I supposed to carry on a conversation with a fictional person?

It has the uncanny feeling of talking to "Jabber."

Is there not some way to keep these characters from crossing over to unrelated threads to carry on the hoax? Perhaps until the questions are settled about a claimant's reliability, he should confine discussion of his predicament to the threads devoted to his personality. I had no desire to get into it with this guy, despite his obvious attempts to draw me out. Now I am frustrated about it. He looked at banter as an invitation to talk about himself.

What is this thread about, anyway? It seems to have gotten off to its start as a way of venting personal quirks or spouting off: fine. Maybe there's a lesson here. What is the lesson? Oh, hold it, I've got it.

Maybe there's more interest in the issues and subjects of time travel and Titor than there is in oneself.

Yo, Paul,

Good to see you posting bud. In case you hadn't noticed, old Paddy has been busted and warned. His character was a total fraud. I think his chatter should become diminimus from here out. His threads were closed and moved, other than his apology and explanation. He did apologize, but he ain't out of the woods yet. I about died laughing with your Jabber reference. So true, so true. Sorry junior was bothering you, but I suspect he'll move along now.

Uh, Padraic, Paul is a well respected member here, and I consider him a friend. I'd leave him alone if I were you, bucko. He won't jack with you much, but I will. I suggest you steer clear. Yeah, I'm still that kinda asshole.
