Sticking with Jedi's asking, the fabric of spacetime sometimes gives ample warning to those who are sensitive enough to gather those messages from the future. There was a prediction of a meteorite strike off the coast of California affecting a town as said here earlier.

@Einstein Good point. Why don't we ever have the feeling something good is going to happen? Maybe that is just being in a really good mood. I don't remember what that feels like.

The feeling of numbness or being in a daze is a protective reaction mechanism, so if the subject is not in the main zone of what this event is to occur, that they are less likely to be harmed. Kind of a method of pre-shock.

So whatever this event might be, it's probably large.
