On December 26, 2004 there was an undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean that measured between 9.0 and 9.3 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake caused an incredible tsunami that hit the coastlines of several countries in one day. It has been categorized as one of the "deadliest disasters in modern history". The first day that news reports began coming in from around the world, headlines said the death toll was expected to reach at least 100,000. Some believed John may have known about this event ahead of time.

China's first astronaut Yang Liwei is in orbit following a successful launch Wednesday morning from the Jiuquan launch site in the western Gobi Desert, state media reports.

Speaking from space, the 38-year-old astronaut reported back to mission controllers that he "feels good" and said the spacecraft is operating normally, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Yang, a former air force pilot, is expected to make 14 orbits in the Shenzhou V spacecraft before returning to Earth at a landing site in Inner Mongolia.

Quoted by Chinese media just before he blasted off into space, Yang said he would "gain honor for the People's Liberation Army and for the Chinese nation."

"I will not disappoint the motherland," he was quoted as saying. "I will complete each movement with total concentration."
All being well, the flight looks set to bring China entry to an elite club of space powers, making it only the third country after Russia and the United States capable of putting humans into space and returning them safely to Earth.

The Long March 2-F rocket carrying the Shenzhou V spacecraft blasted off just seconds after 9 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) Wednesday.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders and VIPs were at the Jiuquan site to witness the launch.
Quoted later by Xinhua, Hu praised the launch as "the glory of our great motherland," describing the flight as an "historic step of the Chinese people in the advance of climbing over the peak of the world's science and technology."

The spacecraft entered orbit at about 9:10 a.m. (0110GMT), Xinhua said.
"Shenzhou V is operating normally in orbit," the agency quoted Li Jinai, chief commander of the country's manned space program as saying.

Earlier this week, state-run CCTV cancelled plans to broadcast live television pictures of the launch on the advice of "space experts."

Observers said China's leaders considered the political risks of a launch failure too great to allow live coverage.
But following an apparently textbook blast off, Chinese television broke into its regular programming to announce the launch and the news that the country's first astronaut was in space.

No outside journalists were allowed permits to cover the event, with only a few representatives of Chinese state-run media observing the launch.

Video images showed the rocket soaring into a cloudless sky, with other pictures from mission control showing a video feed of Yang inside the capsule.

Attorneys for plaintiff Samantha Taffner and defendants International Flavors and Fragrances and Bush Boake Allen Inc., which International purchased in 2000, told Jasper County Associate Judge Stephen Carlton they reached a deal Friday, after a 10-day trial.

Taffner, 28, is one of about 30 former workers at the Gilster-Mary Lee Corp. plant in Jasper and their spouses who have sued the manufacturers, claiming they should have known the chemical diacetyl, used to make the butter flavoring, causes lung damage.

"The terms of the settlement are confidential, but my client is very pleased that the settlement will allow her to take care of her health and family in a way that will attempt to minimize future suffering," said Ken McClain, an attorney for Taffner.

Mike Patton, an attorney representing International Flavors, declined to comment.

Court records say Taffner, a mother of two, worked at the plant from 1996 through 1998. She claimed that exposure to the chemical reduced her lung capacity to 26 percent of normal and left her in need of a lung transplant.

Attorneys for the two corporations have maintained that popcorn plant officials were warned that the flavoring should be mixed in a well-ventilated area and that a respirator should be worn when heating it. In March, jurors awarded $20 million to a former plant worker and his wife. The manufacturers have appealed. Confidential settlements were reached in two other trials.

A new trial has been ordered in another case, which had ended with jurors refusing to award any money to four workers.

LANGUAGE DIFFERENCES & OTHER SUBTLE MISTAKES

Whenever I hear about anyone claiming to be a Time Traveler, the first thing I watch for is a difference in language, because that's one of the most obvious factors that would be different from anyone visiting our Timeline. If John Titor was from our future, he wasn't that many years ahead of us, but there would still be some differences in language. If he was telling the truth, then he would be trained and prepared by the Military to meet and converse with people in our time. He would also have to learn the 'language of the day', and study the events of the times that he was traveling to, so that he wouldn't draw attention to himself.

I believe that is why John Titor knew about the times he visited, however, sometimes he made small mistakes, which may or may not have gone unnoticed. I will give an example. I don't have the exact question at hand to post, but someone asked John if in his world, they had "teleportation". Take a look at the answer given by John.

In his world line, they watched localized broadcasts on the Internet (streaming, something we didn't even have in 2001). John's world didn't have the old science fiction TV series and movies available that we watch today, so he wasn't familiar with that term.

John thought "teleportation" was a means of public transportation. Clearly a language difference. That's one mistake that John made, which indicated he was from a different time or world line.

SEGWAY IN MILITARY AND GOVERNMENT

On another subject, John asked someone about "IT", which is Ginger or Segway. Here's what John said:

As it turned out, John Titor spoke a little too soon, because he made the statement in January 2001, but "IT" (Segway) wasn't revealed to the public until December 2001 (when John was gone from our Timeline).

Heh, that's correct. There are no networks in the future again until the 2040's. I believe he said that he did like to watch old TV shows and movies thanks to pirated media from the past.

No, I don't think John misread the word "teleportation" as 'transportation'. If he misread the word 'transportation', he would not have repeated it as part of the definition when he said, "I assume you mean public transportation" in his post.

Details and cryptic messages in John's posts show how conscientious he was. I don't think he made a careless mistake like that. I believe John genuinely was not familiar with the term 'teleportation', which is a well-known term on our Timeline that relates to futuristic technology portrayed in science fiction films.

So I have been reading from this site and I learned some very informative things. Chiefly, Titor said that the N day strategy was mostly to use three nukes per city. Most people might think that means 1 strike followed by a second and then a third. After reading from that site I see that is not the strategy at all but rather to detonate all three at once in an overlaping pattern.

More death and destruction can be caused by detonating three 100kt bombs simultaneously in a triangular pattern than one Tsar Bomb. The over lapping pressure waves colliding into each other and everything else is much stronger and the thermal events create a nuclear firestorm like Hamburg Germany....but worse.


The night of July 27-28 was the night of THE HORRIFIC FIRESTORM. Approximately 2,326 tons of bombs, of which 51% were incendiaries, were dropped. There had been a combination of unusually high temperatures (86° Fahrenheit) and low humidity (30% humidity compared to a normal of 40% to 50%) on the day before the raid. And, the bombing was more concentrated [p. 259].

Soon after the bombing started, a dense column of smoke rose to the height at which the bombers were flying (20,000 ft, i.e, 3.8 miles). The smoke was so thick that one plane returned with a turret covered with particles of soot [p. 243]. The firestorm started 23 minutes after the first bombs had fallen [p. 261]. On this basis, we are able to know that, at the absolute minimum, eight individual low-tech 20 Kt nuclear weapons are capable of producing a level a level of destruction equal to a large thermonuclear weapon (475 Kt). Parenthetically, it is well to note that 58% of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons are of about this size (500-550 Kt), and 87% of the thermonuclear weapons in the U.S. strategic arsenal are smaller than 475 Kt.

Now let's go a step further and consider the potential consequences of SIMULTANEOUSLY DETONATING a pattern of eight nuclear weapons. I have not seen simultaneous nuclear air bursts discussed, or even hinted at, in the open literature, but too many of their effects are too obvious to ignore them, as can be seen in the "M" (Multiple Blasts) command in Nukefix.

When eight low-tech 20 Kt nuclear weapons are detonated simultaneously in an encirclement pattern (5 mile radius, 4.3 miles between zero points in a circle) in a high population density urban area, at least as much destruction would tend to be produced as with a single one megaton thermonuclear weapon. The reason for this is firestorms and the interaction of blast forces.
