Is our Government keeping tabs on us via our public libraries?

I have noticed lately that at my local public library certain books can't be checked out without signing a request form for it and thats weird but now we can't use the computers for any reason without our library card. If you are a visitor from out of town, you must show your state license or I.D card. I think that this is just another way for the government to keep tabs on us and what we are saying and doing online. Does anyone have a problem with this? Or is this just a way to stop terrorists? Or sexual predators? Is it the same in your cities..if so how long has this been going on? What do you-all think?

A lot of people think that keeping tabs through the library card makes people safer..Like, the only predators that are online, are found at the library? HA!
The Feds need to have better first time offense laws for pervs.
And society needs to back us up on it!
I think the Feds want to know who has subversive attitudes.......
Thats the real deal!:eek::eek:
Oh and soon we will not have Soc. Security cards....just our retinas or some other weird way of identity..like skin dna
WILD!
I will soon B headin' for the mountains........

I'm sure Chip will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Library restrictions are based on the idea that plotters often use public computers to hatch their devious schemes - that way they might not be traced back to them.

You know, them Al Quedas gotta communicate somehow.

On the other hand, predators are also often caught through their IP numbers and libraries provide them with some anonymity as well.

Also, on the terrorist side, libraries try to report it when people check out books with titles like ""How to hijack two airplanes, fly them into skyscrapers, and receive your own personal entourage of 72 virgins - all without a down payment!"

So, yeah, the government is keeping tabs on us through the public libraries.

No point complaining, the government funds them.

If they're stupid enough to want to keep track of the likes of me, then maybe they should visit a library every now and then (you know, and do some reading or something) instead of just getting reports from the libraries.

Well hoss, if they're gonna track me through MY library, I suppose I'm gonna have to add another toilet. Hate crowded spaces.

Well, let's just say that I don't worry much about it.

Many former members of this site certainly worry enough to take up my slack.

Beyond all the hype that can be contrived regarding what we check out from the library; Personally I think it would be quite fun finding out who checks out what!

Regarding the anonymity of the IP's; I still say with all of the orwellian methods of today it's impossible to record what everyone does everywhere on the internet at all times. The sheer amount of data involved is just entirely out of any ballpark that any IT dept could ever handle. Trust me on this...

BTW-Harte, who is the author of that book you noted? Is that a government doc? Maybe an FOIA release? lol
