This minuteman project could very much complicate things for Bush. He's trying to get another war going with Iran and/or Syria but the public is already unhappy with things in general. Now, he's come out as opposing citizens who are trying to help close the borders. While under other circumstances another terrorist attack in the US, seen as "inevitable", might galvanize public support for further mid-east invasion, if it were to happen soon might have the opposite effect. That is, he would probably be blamed for not preventing the attack. If a majority of Americans decided that defending the homeland was more important than attacking another country, and if he tried to force it anyway, an uprising could happen pretty quickly. I realize I'm dealing with a lot of "what ifs" but would be intersted in your thoughts.
