They don't have to fight us, they have to fight their brothers south of the 38th parallel. If NATO forces intervene, including US, what is to stop the full forces of Russia, China, and Iran from parading through Europe, the middle east, and the rest of Asia while tactical warheads are launched from off shore submarines onto U.S. mainland? If the US dollar has no backing, no basis, and no future, then who needs us?
