These seem to be Greer's alien false flag operations.
Back in the days of film cameras, I'm surprised they didn't fix the film being blown out. They could have set the exposure like usual then backed it down a few knotches, added a neutral density gray filter, or (my favorite) start experimenting with polarized filters. 2 polarized filters slowly counter rotated against each other will start blocking out a lot of light, and maybe the little extra polarization might get a cleaner image.
