So, who is prompting/instigating the rest of the Ukraine to participate in these referendums and vote?

Is there pressure from Russia or is it the Ukranian government's idea?

Nobody incites - themselves locals took power into their own hands and make their own destiny: where, how and with whom to live.

There is pressure from the junta Kiev: they want to destroy the locals Donetsk Republic, not to give them the opportunity to vote - but as I said, the troops do not want to become murderers of their own people. Only a few mercenaries and provocateurs periodically commit attacks on residents.

However, brave people firmly hold defense.

As I suspected: May 2 at 4:30 am without declaring war junta gathered from the Nazis with the western districts of Ukraine and foreign mercenaries launched a punitive campaign against the civilian population. If 80% of the people in a region want to leave and separate they should be allowed to do so without being murdered.
Just as a living cell will do just before it becomes two separate cells, so should the people of the Ukraine become an independent nation.
If this country takes sides in this private matter without having any vested interest like the 80% of Russians, we will pay a high price.
Let Poland be Poland and the same is true for the people of the Ukraine!

And here's the "secret" why the junta does not give citizens the right to self-determination. The reason is simple: money.
