Wonder Woman is an Amazon warrior princess and one of the most powerful superheroes in the DC Universe. The daughter of Hippolyta, she was given power by the Gods to fight against evil in all its forms.
On Earth, I believe they originated in the later days of Atlantis, as a reaction against the vile patriarchal culture that Atlantis had become, after the Sons of Belial and their ilk, evil Atlantean magicians, had murdered their female royalty, committed atrocities around the world and taken control of Atlantis.
This was a long time after, long lived Thoth, seemingly a good Atlantean magician who had extraterrestrial connections and was apparently an earlier reincarnation of Jesus and who was the main architect of the Great Pyramid in Giza, instructing tall extraterrestrials from the Sirian Star System, how to build it.
The Amazons also had extraterrestrial connections, many having lived as Bene Gesserits, in earlier lifetimes, within the distant future parts of the Milky Way's Spiral Time Streams, as described in the basically true science "fiction" 6-book epic story, Dune, by Frank Herbert.
