What are your thoughts on the hollow Earth idea?

Yes. It is correct according to Mel's claim. Mel told Art Bell a dog corpse was thrown into the hole and the following day the same dog was found on the streets as if it was resurrected.

Mel was offered money to let go off the idea of keeping his property. But the aftermath from the episode was even more astonishing. Mel went back and began talking about his hole and got a punch in his nose with a warning to disappear for a time.

The idea of the hollow Earth defies time. Since time immemorial people traditionally keep unconsciously a certainty of the hollow Earth.
Now as the ice melts because of the ever increasing temperatures in Antarctica begins to appear incredible verifiable entrances to the interior of the Earth. Pyramids and even huge alien crafts stuck in the rocks. The Earth remains as an uncharted territory.
