Usually the higher self, the innate cellular intelligence, subconscious...depending on the question.
You could probably use it to channel other beings too.

You are, perhaps I didn't make that clear.
The body generates micro oscillations in the strings or rods which move them in accordance with the answers found by using the body or quantum mind to obtain the answers. Its very similar to muscle testing but in a case for tracking a lost pet dowsing rods deliver a much faster way of determining the direction of the pet.
The knowledge can come from many places.
The rods/pendulum/muscle testing/sense input are tools.
The body is the translation system.

Why not just ask the Ouija board if it lies? Your subconscious might understand how it all works.

Well, we don't know for sure, I think.
But as Mr 8th says, I try to use 'personal discernment' & not get carried away & believe any old stuff.
However, I always endeavour to not just 'believe', but some - & I haven't used the Pendulum a lot, of the answers I got, were painful: Very painful

Unfortunately, they turned out to be true...

I ought to have heeded what I was told.

IMHO, spirits can have everything to do with the motions of the pendulum.

I have a collection of pendulums in my personal safe room that are kept in salt after they are cleaned so, no returns.

To say that spirits have nothing to do with these or Ouija or etc.... is naive at best.

Half the people I have helped were beset by a spirit brought on by the mishandling of divination devices.

Even those with experience are not always safe.
