Well you are correct about the doom and gloom talk here, but if you want real doom talk just turn on the evening news.
Sometimes the truth can be more scary than fiction.
The problem with relying on mainstream news media for all your information is that they exist to make a profit, and bad, attention grabbing headlines sell more newspapers and bring in more viewers than good news. Widen your view by getting information from more sources that come from the public or independant outlets, like twitter.
Also, why are there so many high tech scary movies today?
The young people seem to like them and the violent games.
People fear what they don't understand, and most of the people making movies are from the older generations. Also, the real question you need to ask about violent video games is: why is it okay to show violence but not sex, or drug use? Granted, those themes are becoming more acceptable to explore as videogames become more of an art form akin to movies and literature than mere toys, especially in the indie scene. Also, plenty of studies have shown there are no links between playing violent videogames and violent behaviour. Being bad at games, however, can cause violent behaviour, but being bad at anything can do that.
"Overall, this pattern of effects was found to be independent of the presence or absence of violent game contents."

There is also a report that came out saying there are more angry people then any time in our history other then just prior to the civil war.
2015 may be the year of the next civil war if we can't find a way to work together.
Do you have a link to that report? I can't seem to find anything like it. Also, it doesn't help that there are far more people than there were during the American Civil War. (Which I assume is the one you were referring to)
