Terraforming

Re: Terraforming

I do believe that nobody really knows what causes gravity or attraction between material objects. There are as many theories as there are scientists trying to understand the subject. Some even say that gravity does not exist. All it is that it is a form of shielding from existing uniform pressure in the universe. The pressure exists everywhere, a material object shields part of one side so the object is forced on to the shielded section. The bigger the shield is the more force is used. So the science is really wide open. Even today nobody can really explain magnetic attraction, sure there are many theories but thats what they are theories only.

Wildman,

This means Mars couldn't hold an atmosphere we could easily breath, but Venus certainly could if you could just reverse the greenhouse effect that has run rampant there.

Not quite true. With enough effort Mars could be terraformed probably quite cheaply for the amount of real estate gained. There is plenty of junk matter in the asteroid belt. With small drives fitted the asteroids could be made to crash onto mars and the mass would slowly build up. A large number of the asteroid junk consists of ice bodies its probably more then enough to supply needed water to mars. The drives would be probably very cheap to construct. I am thinking of Ion drives, solar cells would supply the power needed. Ok the thrust is very small but could continue for hundreds of years and would build up to a very respectable end velocity. So never say couldn't, say unlikely but even that might not apply in the future.
