The official gas price thread

Re: The official gas price thread

Fuel has gone up here in Kansas City, MO about 40 cents in the last month or so. Guess they have about snuffed out the competition with the $37 per barrel oil, so now they can raise the fuel to new heights once again. Do people honestly think that the price of oil can go from $147 per barrel to $37 per barrel in like 6 to 8 months, just because of supply and demand? Doubtful. Cut out the profit margins, destroy the competition, and then control the supply and the price forever. Hold on to your wallets in the future.

Re: The official gas price thread

Duh. Supply and Demand especially during the summer. It's around $2.51-$2.71 in my area. I don't care about gasoline or the oil companies anymore. It's the vans and the trucks that are going to suffer the most, but no matter how high the prices are, people still drive.

Look at Europe. In some areas, especially Germany, it's around $10.00-$12.00 a gallon in US currency, so be grateful on what you are paying. Last year, United Kingdom's price for gasoline is $9.50 in US currency, and 3/4ths of it is tax alone. 9.50-7.00=2.50 without the tax. Last year, Asia was around $5.00-$7.00 a gallon.

History always repeats itself. I'm sure this scenario of $4.00 a gallon in the US will happen again. It did in the 70s, it did last year, and it will happen again only the third time will be the worst one of all.

In the 70s, people thought $1.01 was high.
Last year, people thought $4.20 was high.

4.20-1.01= 3.19 increase over the past 20-30 years. My prediction is that when this strikes again, gas will be higher into the $6.00 or $7.00 range.

I'm supporting hybrid cars and renewable energy. I don't care about the old gasoline and electricity habits anymore.

Re: The official gas price thread

I think that two reasons to go with an alternative would be to 1. get out of the Saudis bed.
I know we dont get all of our oil from them but they are the driving force financially for terrorism so I dont want to give em any cash!
2.And for environmental reasons.
But...If we go with electricity we will see HIGHER prices for that than gas! Whatever we use for energy we will pay for it HUGE! Because those in control...have just that..CONTROL.

Re: The official gas price thread

Word. Germany really has it goin' on with the solar panels....We should model some after them....

Want to complain about gaz prices, about how you paid for some gallons/litres ?
Here is your chance to say what you think.
I don't want to put this in the forum games, because it's not funny ! (lol)

I'll start.
I just filled up my truck this morning, it cost me 85$.
It was 1.47$/l, the guy told me we were going to hit 2.00$/litre this summer, by vacation time (in 2-3 weeks).
Vacation time means people getting out of their cities, going else where, resting there, eating, buying stuff.
Damn, this year they're gonna stay home, it's gonna cost way too much.

Sometimes I go near the Maine border, gaz is way cheaper there. I don't go on the US side of the border, but all the gaz station in Canada sell their gaz cheaper near the lines. 7?/litre is not that bad when you pay 1.50$/litre.

So, that's it for this time. Let's see how it will cost next time, in a few weeks.

Num7

Ha! Num7, when I moved to Canada in '99 I kept seeing gas for .79 - I was commenting how cheap it was and then learned it was a litre, not a gallon.

I couldn't believe it . . . But then I had to buy cigarettes. Holy! When I left in 2007 the very cheapest rollies I could find were over $7 a pack of 25. Never bought a carton - rolled my own (something I think only people in jail do in the US) Right now I am paying $2.19 a gallon for gas that went up to $3.79 last summer. Bring back the expensive gas! I am now paying $34 for a carton of smokes that used to cost me $21 - and I mean last month - in April. I think my smoking habit couild be more expensive than my gas habit.

Come on - make me feel better - How much is a carton of the cheapest smokes at The Real Canadian Superstore these days?

Re: The official gas price thread

Gaz went down to about .79 this winter, it was like in the good old days. Now it's still about 1.07-something.

About the carton, I don't really know, but as far as I know, it must be around 40-50 bucks. These are pretty expensive, with many taxes included in the price. Only rich people can smoke! LOL

Re: The official gas price thread

I can answer this, Snow!

I smoke occassionally, it's more of a social thing. My boyfriend buys cartons of John Players because their so cheap, 60-70 depending where he goes, their about the cheapest except for peter jacksons. I smoke McDonalds (whoo Canadian smokes) and they cost just under 8 bucks a pack at Superstore.

Today I have export A's, they were out of Mcdonalds, those were 9 something. One guy at my work is from the states and he's like 'I can't afford to smoke and do everything else anymore!' He said some packs are 5 bucks in the states.

Re: The official gas price thread

Hehe! Thanks Whitelight. I feel better already. I'm smoking half price cigarettes!

In Hawaii, a pack is around $6.00-$7.39 since the additional tax of $1.01 passed during the spring semester.

Cheap cigarettes can only be found in cheapy stores next to Walmart or Chinatown. In Chinatown, the pack is around $4.00-$5.00.

Someone in my business calculus class said cigarettes as an example of a necessity. I don't smoke at all because it's a waste of money and I have asthma.
