What if the world spent more on science then War

What do you think would happen if the world spent more on sciences then war?

Would we be able to live until were 250 years old and take a vacation to the moon, would we have been able to discover time travel and change the past to better the future. I think if we all decided that we were brothers and sisters born from the same person in our past lives their wouldn't be so much hate and instead of focusing on scary nuclear weapons we could try to better ourselves off by focusing on other things such as science. These are a few things that would make a cool discussion what do you guys think? I didn't know where to put this one so I put it here please move to proper sub forum if there is one. thanks

:D

Glad you've come to realize this Snakey, however. So long as their is a plan we must follow, we will never not have war.

Thinking is a heck of a lot better than shooting people anyday of the week

Too bad we can't train our governments to do so... ;)

Although war has driven most of the modern worlds greatest scientific achievements:

Nuclear energy - Atomic Bomb
Space travel - Cold war feud
Internet - based on military intelligence networks
Some medical proceedures - War wound treatment
Commercial Jet planes - Fighter planes
Communication satilites - espionage satillites

any others?

I read a while back that if they were to take all of the money spent around the world in '97, (Around the time it was written.) they could fund EVERY humanitarian project in the world for over 30 years... That should give you some indication of where we would be.

I agree, War does motivate the inventions. Gotta be faster, harder, more lethal.

I still would love to live in a Technocracy (or gasp, a real meritocracy)..

Daydreams are wonderful. (John Lennon playing on my headphones, go figure) Imagine no homeless people, education available for all those that wish it, good roads, renewed city infrastructure..etc...medical coverage for everyone. imagine the intellect freed up to design, invent, progress. Instead of wasted in medicrity, barely surving on the margins of society. (Dang, I almost sound like a socialist) Would it not be a better world for our children? for their children?

What is the pursuit of all the wealth and power for? Who does it profit? When you answer that you will know the reality of why we spend so much more abroad on military on so little on Americans.

Well, then again, lets bomb someone and pump their oil. Then my oil/defense company stock will jump through the roof. Me first, who cares about anyone else. (Sarcasm intended if I was actually subtle at all)

Actually, on a personal note, without war and military, I would have no job...hmmmmmmmm....there is the real rub. How much is one willing to change or risk to make a better world for others. I digress and drift on to other non-related topics...Coca~Cola Time!
