In the US the richest have the power to take the rule of the country for themselves, and control the media output in order to avoid the concept of shame ever coming into question.
Here in Britain however the ruler is the person who is actually voted for, and the media, while still closely monitored, has a little more freedom; it is rare that the wrong-doer will admit shame, but because of the better freedom we have here, other, lesser people will like as not go on television and admit his shame for him. Maybe this is why we appear to expect a share of shame.
