Monday night, January 23, 1978, police received a call of a homicide reported by David Wallin, who had come home from work and found his 26 year old wife in the bedroom, dead. He ran screaming to a neighbor’s house to call the police, and when authorities arrived he was so upset that he couldn't speak.
The first policemen who entered the home and saw the body suffered from nightmares for months afterwards.
Earlier that afternoon, Teresa Wallin, 22 and three months pregnant, was taking out the garbage when she ran into a tall, pale, thin unkempt young man with long stringy hair who had just opened her front door and stepped inside. Terry screamed and dropped the garbage, throwing up her arms in defense as the man raised a pistol in his hand. A shot rang out.
Then another in quick succession. One of the bullets tore through the palm of Terry's hand, traveled up her arm and exited out her elbow, nicking the side of her neck. The other bullet ripped into the top part of her skull as she collapsed to the ground.
The thin young man knelt over her and callously fired another bullet directly into her temple, then dragged her body into the bedroom leaving a trail of blood behind smeared on the floor.
The stranger then left the bedroom and went to the kitchen to find a knife. On his way back, he stopped and rummaged through the garbage Terry had spilled all over the floor, and retrieved a yogurt container he carried with him back to the bedroom...
When Terry's husband, David, arrived home later that evening the house was dark.
He opened the front door and saw their dog, a German shepherd waiting inside.
The stereo was playing in the other room, but his wife was nowhere to be found.
The first thing he noticed was the bag of trash laying on the floor, and what appeared to be dark, oily stains smeared on the carpet.
He followed the stains into their bedroom, and started to scream.
His wife's body was sprawled on the floor face up, just inside the door. Her sweater was pulled up over her breasts and her pants and underwear down around her ankles. She had deep stab wounds all over her torso. Her knees were splayed open, one of her nipples had been sliced off, her abdomen had been slashed and her intestines pulled out. Animal feces were shoved into her mouth. Laying beside her was a discarded yogurt container with blood in it. It looked like the killer had taken some of her blood and drank it.
Articles in the newspapers the next day reported that the woman was attacked by an unknown assailant who broke into her house and stabbed her; the details were far worse than that, and were with-held from the public to prevent creating a panic and hysteria in the community.
Later, the coroner determined that a lot of the Terry's wounds had been inflicted prior to her actual death. Her killer tortured her and made her suffer for an unbearably long time before she actually died. And this was never released to the public either.
A couple of days later, another series of grisly murders were discovered in the north Sacramento area, within about a mile of Terry Wallin's murder.
Three bodies were found in another suburban home: a 36 year old woman, her 6 year old son, and a 52 year old man who was a family friend.
The woman's two-year old nephew was also missing and presumed to have been abducted. In the child’s playpen police found a bullet slug and blood-soaked pillow. All of them had been shot, and the woman's abdomen was slashed open, just like Terrys.
On January 27th, Evelyn Miroth, 38, was baby-sitting her twenty-month old nephew in her home, one mile from the Wallin residence. Her 51-year-old friend, Dan Meredith, came over. Evelyn was about to send her son Jason, 6, to a friends house, but when Jason failed to arrive, the friend sent her daughter over to check. The little girl saw movement inside from the front window, and then turned around to report that no one had answered the door. The killer was still in the house at the time and fled when he heard somebody at the door. Neighbors grew worried and one finally entered the house and found the bodies.
The Sheriff on scene called it the most bizarre, grotesque, and senseless killings he had ever seen in his 28 years of law enforcement.
No details were ever released to the public about what really happened there. The 36 year old woman who was murdered was, if you can believe it, even more badly mutilated than Terry Wallin.
Dan Meredeth was found laying in the hallway dead from a single gunshot wound to his head.
Evelyn Miroth was found lying naked on the bed in her bedroom, her legs splayed open. She had a gunshot wound to the head, and her abdomen had been cut open and her intestines pulled out. Two bloody carving knives lay nearby. It appeared that she had been taking a bath when she was surprised by her killer, and then dragged out of the bathroom and thrown onto the bed, and shot once in the head. She had been stabbed and mutilated, bloody ringlets found on the carpet indicated that the killer had once again used some kind of container to collect her blood. The bathtub was full of bloody water.
On the other side of the bed the police discovered the body of the boy, Jason, who had been shot twice in the head at close range. Richard

The police were working with FBI profilers and finally tracked the killer down. His name was Richard Trenton Chase, and they arrested him on Saturday at the apartment he was living in.
Reportedly his living conditions were putrid and filthy, like an animal lived there. There were blood stains everywhere in the kitchen, including on the dishes and glasses. Human body parts and part of a brain were found stored in containers in the refrigerator.
An electric blender on the counter smelled of rot. Police found a number of dog collars laying about, but no dogs. A science book full of medical overlays of human organs was laying open on the table, next to a bunch of old newspapers which showed ads of dogs for sale circled and highlighted. Most disturbing, a calendar on the wall shows the inscription "today" marked on the dates of the Wallin and Miroth murders, and the same word was ominously written on forty-four more dates into the future.
Police officers continued to search for the missing baby in Chase’s apartment, but the body was not found until some weeks later. A janitor at a local church came upon a box while cleaning, which contained the babies remains inside of it.
At Chases' trial he took the stand in his own defense, and looked ghastly. He had dropped weight to 107 pounds, and his eyes were sunken and lusterless. He admitted to drinking the blood of some of his victims, but claimed to have only been semi-conscious during the killings. When asked about the baby he admitted to the murder, but he said he thought the baby was something else. He did not elaborate. He thought that his problems stemmed from his inability to have sex with girls as a teenager, and he said he was sorry for the killings.
The jury found Chase legally sane after deliberating an hour. It took them four hours to decide that he should die in the gas chamber at San Quentin Penitentiary.

FBI profilers visited Richard Chase and learned about some of his oddities. Robert Ressler, who coined the term "serial killer," recounts his encounter with Chase in his book, Whoever Fights Monsters. Of all the serial killers he's talked to, Ressler said Chase was the creepiest and most unnerving one he'd ever encountered.
He said he was shocked by his appearance, describing him as gaunt and emaciated. But it was his eyes that spooked him the most. He said he'd never forgotten them. They were like those of a shark in the movie Jaws. No pupils, just black spots. Evil eyes that stayed with him for a long, long time. He described getting the impression that he thought Chase couldn't really see him, that he was just looking right through him, staring vacantly. He showed no signs of being aggressive, no emotion, but just sat there passively.
Ressler said Chase believed that he was dying because his blood was turning to powder sapping him of vital . energy and causing him to waste away, and that the murders he committed were in self-defense, because he needed to drink human blood to survive.
Chase said he was being slowly poisoned, and described the threat as "soap-dish" poisoning. Everyone has a 'soap-dish', he explained. If you lift up the soap and it's dry, you're okay. But if the bottom of the soap is all gooey, then you have soap-dish poisoning, which turns your blood to powder, and eats away at the bodies energies. And the only way to keep alive is to drink the blood of other humans and animals.
Another thing Ressler asked Chase about was his method of selecting his victims. And Chase told him that he'd begin hearing voices in his head which commanded him to go and take another person's life, so he'd just go down the street and begin approaching people at random in a shopping center or while they were in their cars, or he'd wander into someone's neighborhood and go up on their front porch and begin rattling doors.
He said if the door was locked, he wouldn't go into the house, because that meant he wasn't invited or welcome there. But if he came to a door that was open, he felt that it was okay and he was invited, so he'd go inside and kill anyone who was home there at the time.
If you look at a lot of the stories and encounters of witnesses who have met Black-Eyed people, a lot of them will tell you that these people just appear seemingly out of nowhere . . . and walk up to them on the street, or when they're in their car, or come to their house and knock on their door. They ask them for help with something, and become really insistent and pushy if the answer is no, until the person either lets them in, or runs away from them.
Another thing Robert Ressler pryed from him, was apparently that Chase spoke about UFO's that constantly hovered over the earth, and commanded him to kill by mental telepathy. He told Ressler that the UFO's were also connected to airplane crashes, and told him that the FBI could easily detect UFOs by radar, and discover that the UFOs were following him, and appeared as stars in the night sky which light up and pulse through some kind of alien fusion reaction machine.
That was the defense Chase was preparing for himself in court, that the murders he committed were done in self-defense, and that he was being controlled telepathically by UFOs in the sky that had been following him his whole life, and commanded him to kill.
In 1980 they found Chase dead in his prison cell in Vacaville, California. He had saved up all the antidepressant pills he'd been given to treat his mental-illness; some people called his death accidental, but others suspected it was a suicide, and he killed himself to silence the voices that tormented him and commanded him to murder people.
A lot of people who have encountered the Black-Eyed people are haunted by the thoughts of what might have happened to them if they followed them or let them in their homes or cars.
Perhaps the disturbing murders committed by Richard Trenton Chase is one possible answer to that question.
Who knows how many people were spared a gruesome death because Richard Chase came up to their door and found it locked, and moved on to the next house . . . Was Richard Case just crazy, or is it possible that he was possessed by some kind of energy ‘mind parasite’ which got into his head somehow and commanded him to kill, so that it could feed off of the suffering of his victims?
We will never know. But if a Black-Eyed person ever comes knocking at your door, don’t let them in.
