Who Are You?

For instance, if you were to listen to the soundtrack of Gods and Generals, then see a movie called Miracle Mile, then read some essays by Emerson and Roughing It or Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain, and study the scuffs on Lincoln's shoes in his photographs

you would have a good idea of who I am.

Also: Anatomy of a Murder.

Who Are You?

How to describe myself?

I am 22 (soon to be 23). I have been a computer networking engineer in the US Air Force for over four years now; I am about to put on the rank of Staff Sergeant. I spend my first three years stationed at Keflavik Naval Air Station in Iceland; I am now stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. I am good at my job, and learn fast. I have my A+, N+, and MCP (Windows 2000 Professional and Server) certs. I plan on getting a few more in a couple months; I have just been kind of lazy lately.

I like working on computers as a hobby, but do consulting work on the side for about $20 an hour. I don't do it very often at all because I'm usually too tired or too busy. I sometimes do network consulting for about $80 an hour.

My favorite movie is Spider-Man. I've loved Spider-Man since I was a kid; I have a tattoo of him on my left bicep. I collect Spider-Man comics; my best comic is Ultimate Spider-Man #1.

I am a bit of a geek. I really like Star Trek (original cast) and Star Wars. For about two years I created and ran a Star Wars role-playing site called The Star Wars Universe. It was fairly popular, but I had to close it down because it was a bit too expensive after I moved back to the US. I miss it a lot, and am working with an old friend of mine on opening a new, original RP site sometime in the future.

I really like movie scores. I don't know why. My favorite score at the moment is the main theme from The Last Starfighter.

I am kind of a geek, but I'm a big guy at 6'3" and 215lbs. My wife teases me because I'm this big guy who wears glasses. I used to shave my head but we're not allowed to anymore, so I just keep it buzzed. I'm very sarcastic and have a hard time knowing when to shut up. I often speak my mind, and sometimes it's not the best idea. I'm trying to learn to be a little more diplomatic, but I don't see it happening. ;) I can edit myself here; I can't do it in RL.

Anyway, I think that covers the basics. I hope this is what Paul was looking for. ;)

Who Are You?

Ok Paul. I'm in love with you.

I taught in California for about four years--I had a hard time finding people who had actually read Emerson. New England is Emerson country; the grocer down the road references Self-Reliance and The Soul

I come from a long line of Scotch-Irish ditch diggers. We have been in America for five generations and our primary skills are surviving wars, paying taxes, and reading poetry. We like fist fighting too.

The women who marry us are usually dark-haired spitfires who love us for our confidence and complete honesty about our lack of skills. And they make us do the cooking.

I have worked as a salesman, a cabinetmaker, a group living counselor, a literature instructor, and a farm hand. Tragic reason for this zig zag path: I found my Father's copy of Emerson when I was 16--while I was playing with it, it went off.

I am a geek as well. Although I identified with Kirk while most of my math-savvy friends identified with Spock. I was beat up for reading Heinlein (Starship Troopers) when I was 13. Yes I fought back.

I am a member of this community because of the Titor event.

Who Are You?

Hmmmm. Hackimer. Hackimer hackimer ROB hackimer.

- Ummmm.... to be continued.

Continuing -
I'm 29 -
I live in New York City, and I'm native, though I've spent time in Chicago and Florida, and I'm not John Titor.

Yes, my name really is Rob Hackimer.

I like Pink Floyd (even though it's cliche), Billy Joel (even though he's a drunk), Depeche Mode (even though it's passe), They might be Giants (even though it's really wierd)...
I play Playstation 2, it's the first home system I've had since sega master.
Currently I'm playing Kelly Slater Pro Surfer, lauded by Gamespot.com as possibly the best surfing game ever made, but I don't know, since it's the first surfing game I've ever played, and I'm also playing Prince Of Persia, but I can't beat the first boss battle, the one with his father.

I like to Bike around NY, I skateboard sometimes. I like fishing. I like computers. I cook...extremely well, I have 5 years professional kitchen exp and am looking to start a small local catering outfit in Queens. Maybe.

I'm going to marry my college sweetheart. We've known each other over 11 years, and there's no doubt in my mind about that. (the marrying, not the 11 years. HEY 11, hmmmm!)

I'm into helicopters, and want to learn to fly them and maybe work professionally flying them.
I'm an artist too, anything I can do to get my emotions out of my head I will do. . . I also have written hundreds of poems, and am looking to publish my first poetry book, it's called "to sing you marry your voice with your soul" but I have no ambition and the book has been on the shelf for two years. I need someone to take it from me and publish it for me for free and just send me royalty checks. If anyone wants an e-copy I can e-mail it to them. I doubt it would fit in a PM. :)

Well, enough about me, who are YOU?

Thanks for reading about me.

Hack

P.S. I have a tatoo on my inner left ankle that says HACK in block letters which I wrote with a pink felt tip marker in the Tatoo shop the morning I got the tat.

Who Are You?

Wow so many interesting people on this site. It's ashame Im so boring.

My name is Nicole and Im 26. I work as a surgical nurse part time and Im a mom to Noah Mathew (3) and baby Abigail Elizabeth. I have a psycho dog called Elsie who eats diapers.

Im from Pennsylvania, now living in the UK due to the fact that I fell in love with and married a yorkshireman. I have been here 5 years and have this freaky morphed American/ British accent now. When I'm in England people can't figure out where the heck I come from based on my accent and when Im in Pennsylvania they think Im English so go figure.

I love history and time travel, always have and always will. My next obsessions are reading, politics, computers, sports, horses, cooking and music. Check out the band Rasmus if you get a chance. ;) Their song In The Shadows rocks and one of the vids has time travel in it.

Im very much a geek and proud of it. I love star wars, star trek, etc etc etc  There once was a guy who lived in my sister's building who thought he was actually a star fleet officer. He used to walk around all day in a red star trek uniform waiting for engineering to fix the transporters and beam him home. Well I thought he was cool. ;) But he should probably get help.

Who Are You?

Oh Lawdy, what can I say?

My name is Cary (kinda obvious). One-quarter Irish (mother's father came over on the boat), about one-eighth French, sorry Grayson (father's grandparents on both sides came over on the boat) and the rest is Cajun (Acadians ousted by the British from Nova Scotia in the 1760's). Raised Catholic, now I'm a recovering Catholic. I have ancestors that fought for the American side in the Revolutionary War (mother's maternal Cajun side) and the Civil War (Confederate, mother's side again).

I'm married (second time) and have four children (3 from the first and 1 from the second marriage) ages 25, 22, 19 and 12. I'll be 50 this August. My education was Catholic school through high school and state university (BS in Accounting). I earned Certified Public Accounting certification and worked in accounting until the early 80's. I even worked for Arthur Anderson in the Houston office in the late 70's/early 80's as a tax accountant (way before Enron scandal). I've been in the financial services sector since then, and have my own broker/dealer and Registered Investment Advisor firms now. My passion (outside of family) revolves around the financial markets and the economy.

My musical tastes are very much classic rock (Beatles, Stones, Cream, Hendrix, Zeppllin, Aerosmith, Who, Jethro Tull, AC/DC and lately Jet from Australia - those boys Rock). My other hobby is movies. I really love Mob movies (Godfather, Goodfella's, Casino, Soprano's) war movies/documentaries (Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, etc.) and some TV dramas, especially The Shield (Fox TV series about crooked cops in L.A. - Vic Mackey rocks). I like to lift weights and do some aerobics. I'm 6'2" and weigh 240. In my prime I weighed 235, and was a jock. I played football in high school and wrestled in college. I got into street fighting (yes, it was stupid, but testosterone at that age makes you that way) in my late teens (it was the rage in the early 70's and there was a "bunch" of us doing it). I quit fighting the weekend I saw two of my friends get shot, and I was knocked out by some little guy with a 2" by 4" while I was fighting another guy about my size (yes, all in the same weekend - a message from God - Stop fighting Stupid!). The weights I do by myself, the aerobics I do with my wife. I play some tennis, but my joints don't hold up to a heavy schedule of it. I love golf, even though I suck at it. Golf is a great justification to be outside (even when it's hot) and smoke cigars and drink a bit. I love history, especially military history (Romans, Brits, Spartans, French, Japan, Greeks, U.S., WWII and U.S. Civil War).

I was a loner growing up, full of hostility and rage (wicked mother) and took my frustrations out in sports and fighting. I'm peaceful now (except for the occassional verbal assult) and I didn't really ever qualify as a geek. I was mostly a maladjusted loner. I've adjusted given the results of my career. I'm not really sure why I'm here on this BBS, except for the fact that I enjoy it, and find the members here pleasant. No tatoos. A fan of Star Trek and Star Wars, but never identified with any of the characters. I stayed in the World Trade Center Marriot in May 2001 while in NYC for a securities conference, just a few months before 9/11. Amazing it all went away in one day. I love NYC - it's just too cool.

Comments on previous posts:

Okay, so I am the "old guy" here given everybody else's age so far. "You just wait, your times comin' to be the "old" person."

Paul, if you're still around, I can relate.

Jedi, my hats off to you for serving in the military. I'm also a Marvel Comics fan. Spider Man was one of my favorites growing up. I sold a footlocker full of Marvel comics back in the late 80's I had accumulated as a kid from the 60's and 70's. I think I got about $400 for the lot. I was trying to clean out unwanted/unnecessary clutter. What a bone head move, huh?

August,
I'm a huge fan of Emerson and Thoreau. Some thinking went down with those boys. Walden Pond is one of my favorites, "Simplify, simplify, simplify," is something I'm striving toward. Ever been to Walden Pond? Don Henley of the Eagles is a huge fan.

Hack, are you sure you're not JT? All my brothers (5 of them) are excellent chefs. I have a hard time cooking breakfast. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage, and best of luck. Marriage is hard work, not matter what anybody tells you. Love your posts bud.

Anoah, being a mother is the most under-rated career on the planet. My hat's off to ya' mom. I love the name Nicole, as it's my oldest daughter's name. She's gorgeous - a cross between Julia Roberts and Cindy Crawford. And yes, I threatened all of her dates while she was growing up if something "bad" happened - it's a dad's duty IMO. She came by this evening to talk about her career. Nursing is probably one of the other most under-rated careers on the planet. My wife is a nurse, so I have some appreciation for this. We have two dogs, two horses and two birds. It's like a freakin' Disney movie when I get home with all of the animals and the neighborhood squirrels, doves, birds, ducks, etc. that get disturbed when I drive up.

Grayson, Billy Connelly is one of my favorites. Have you seen "Boondock Saints" yet? Billy Connelly has a key role in the second half of the movie, and this is one of my favorite movies - Irish Catholic Americans taking on crime. I don't like the French either (love the country don't like the natives), even though most of my heritage is French. Can't stand facists either, especially the gang occupying the White House these days. Reality TV sucks. Tried to watch an episode or two, but it was too mind numbing, and had to switch channels. I've got to say, I love sushi, and my brother-in-law is great. Never been to Ireland, but Scotland was awesome. Next trip overseas will be Ireland.

Okay, I've run on far too long. Somebady else's turn.

Who Are You?

Looks like my turn

My name is Chris, I am 37 years old. I stand 5? 10?, around 190 lbs (not sure here, I?ve yet to meet a scale that said the same thing twice!) I have red hair, blue eyes, and wear glasses. I am married. My wife and I will celebrate our second wedding anniversary in August. We have 5 children ranging in ages from 11 years to 11 months. My wife had 4 children from two previous marriages, 3 from her first marriage, one from her second and we have had one since.

We live in a very small town in Michigan (I doubt you could easily find it on a map). I am currently working in the food industry. Previous jobs have included: food industry (in another company) self-employment in forestry, production work in a chemical plant producing lubricants and cleaners for the automotive industry, and foundry work (10 years at that!)

My interests include:

Computers, though I?m not nearly as savvy with them as I used to be.
.
Classic Mustangs, I have a 1964 and a half coupe that I restored and am very proud of.

Music, I mostly now listen to country; Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain, and Tim McGraw are some artists I like. I do like most forms of music from classical, to classic rock.

Movies, I also am a Star Wars and Star Trek fan. I think my favorite Star Wars movie would have to be the first one, and my favorite Star Trek movie would be Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Books, I read a lot. My interests here have run from sci-fi/fantasy, and more recently to thrillers. Some favorite authors are: Dean Koontz, Ken Follett, and David Baldacchi. I?m also a comic book fan, Marvel comics mostly, though I stopped collecting them around 1990-91 as I was saving money to buy my house.

Travel, I haven?t been able to do this for a few years, but I like to travel a lot. I?ve been to the Black Hills in South Dakota twice, and I could not imagine anything more beautiful or majestic.

Education: not that bad, Master in Anthropology.
Self education: books and SF since childhood, movies etc. Raised by a mother crazy for Superheroes and Science Fiction and Hollywood movies. Father crazy for travelling and carrying us around the whole Europe killing our b*lls with museums etc. They love each other since 40 years... veeery boring ;) !!!

Who Are You?

Author, Whispering Beans, a 1500-page comic epic in the voice of Jesse James. 30 or 35 public readings.

Opening line: "Having got some governors steamed..."

I left out the kind of information others have included, and it's unlikely you'd get it from reading Emerson. 52 years old, 6'1" and 215 pounds.

The official list of who is boring will be issued in the near future. It is being compiled by those who work on a Need to Know basis. Cornelia is not on the list. Anoah: not on the list.
