I lived along the mountain range, that is why I am telling you to think of the Georigia-Virginia area. I say "I think" near Altoona, because Altoona doesn't exist in in my time. I lived to the east of there. I was out of the way a bit. In the wilderness. I haven't looked at a map of the area for about six years (excluding my arrival here), so I'm not sure exactly sure where I was.
Yes, thank you Liberty, that is a ghillie.
Augmented reality is a little harder to define, I'll just explain the simple process. When you look around you now, you see reality as you sense it. Augmentation allows you to see more. Not because anything has changed in the environment, but because a computer is feeding new information into your brain. If you enter a museum, the museum has a computer that will allow you to interact with virtual versions of the actual artifact. Sure, you can look at the actual artifact and then read the written inscription, but then you can pull up additional information that isn't written there, but is stored in a computer. It really is a very fascinating and potentially beneficial technology, but people in my worldline have taken it and forgotten that it is only a sublime layer above reality, a reality that is grim. They love it and who wouldn't?
I believe I mentioned the purges happened after the revolution ended. Very shortly afterwards. The same year, 2019. As they put the final nails in the mainstream revolution, they told the citizens that terrorists were among them and so they started rounding up people under that name. People with complaints, especially anarchists and about the government were the first, other groups followed. But it wasn't just the U.S. other nations did the same thing, keep that in mind. Many other nations immediately started to follow their example, the rest were coerced into it.
Quito is the capital of Ecuador. A country known for it's recent policy of doing stuff that goes directly against the wished of the U.S. government.
1. I have no idea.
2. I was under the impression that it already had. I can't say that I understand economics, but isn't the country in a collapsed economy already? I am not aware of a default on the debt either. We use virtual currency. The revolution uses a bartering system.
3. It's an oligarchy, which is basically a council of nine. First Citizen Adrik Roshal is their leader as of 2043. He has other titles too, some people call him the president although that isn't a proper title.
4. They were originally designed to store medical information. The government made it mandatory for that reason. They were before there was a worldleader. They are typically placed shortly after birth, so no vows are given then. When an older person is found without one, they are quarantined for "medical reasons." They are not released until they pass a "psyche test," and they do have to give an oath. The oath, however, doesn't mention the worldleader. It focuses on ideals. Ideals that sound good, but are so twisted it makes me want to vomit.
5. Rand would have been president at the time, but early on in his presidency. It is very possible that it is the result of already passed legislation.
6. I live in a small apartment. I would guess it to be about 6 x 12 with a nice sized bathroom. All the walls are white, tile floors It has terrible heating. Very noisy neighbors, but they seem to be kind people. Actually at the moment, someone is blasting music. I try not to talk to them. I have one window that faces a sort of courtyard, and people like to party there late into the night. I have a microwave, a minifridge, and a local deli. I am not on the groundfloor which is good. And no, I don't have any friends, but I'm in a place where people don't ask many questions.
7. AIDS is curable, but if you aren't among the elites, they probably just kill you off. I'm not sure if BSE is curable, but probably the same policy. Its a great and relatively cheap way to eliminate diseases.
8. Hardest question yet. Racism is not clearly seen, at least not by me. It does come up on the media though, occassionally someone is convicted of a hatecrime or hatespeech. Criminals get sever punishments here. If racism is prevalent, it certainly isn't shown. Religion is sometimes used as a way to excuse disappearances when they kill off someone. Most of the major religions exist still, but in diluted form. Its more focused on social good than internal development. Access to religious text is pretty much reserved to priests. As I said before, I'm no theologian, I didn't see a Bible until I got here. But certainly, a lot of religious language gets thrown around in 2043. Its legal. A lot of stuff is legal. Practicing it might mean they might eventually end your life over it.
9. Not officially, but if they think you've had enough babies, they seem to make you sterile. Its rare to see more than 3 kids in an upperclass family, its uncommon in middle class and almost unheard of in the lower classes.
10. In due time. I don't have a proper camera, mine isn't compatible. Like I said, you are going to have to wait a while. And the Time Machine will still be off limits until I am comfortable with posting photos of it.
Thanks for the
Tempus Edax Rerum. It might be helpful.
Try for the happy medium between John's and mine. I think it is still possible to avoid both the nuclear war and the Oligarchy. You could technically get both though. Stay hopeful. I wonder if the eight year difference is actually a natural part of time travel? Maybe not necessarily at eight years intervals, but maybe it happens in intervals that are based on how far in advance the traveler is to the events?
